The Symphony Guild's 26th Annual Garden Tour is set for Sunday, April 21, 2013, from 2 to 5 p.m. Tickets are $25. Each year three unique Whittier gardens are selected for the delightful event.
The gardens on this spring's tour are very different from one another and offer those touring the gardens much diversity. Garden #1, 13445 E. Beverly Blvd, Whittier, is nestled at the base of Whittier's rolling hills. While this is a newly planted garden, it has been professionally designed and lovingly maintained by the owners. The intimate backyard is terraced into two levels and shaded by Ficus trees. The delightful front yard features garden sculptures and a cozy seating area. A large variety of flowers and shrubbery are gracefully arranged.
Garden #2 is located among the winding streets of Whittier. Located on a cul-de-sac, the garden is quiet and peaceful. The property is broken into small mini-gardens. Meandering paths offer views into these areas. An amazing assortment of succulents offer the garden visitor an up-close view of this diverse class of plants. Colorful vines and flowers abound and the garden is shaded by a variety of mature trees.
Garden #3 is located in the gently rolling hills of the Friendly Hills area of Whittier. This is a large garden with wide stretches of lawn. The garden terminates in a large fountain. It features a large barbeque area and a swimming pool. A lovely rose garden adjoins the patio area. Don't miss the hand-carved swing from India, a very unique piece. Mature trees surround the garden and are dotted throughout the property as well.
In addition to viewing the gardens, visitors may enjoy refreshments and listen to music performed by members of the Rio Hondo Symphony at each of the three gardens.
