Grand Opening of Office

Celebrating its 75th anniversary, the Rio Hondo Symphony Association will host a ribbon cutting May 6, 2008, from 12 to 2 p.m. to recognize the opening of its first office. It is located in Suite 101, 7740 Painter Avenue in Whittier.

"It has taken 75 long years for the Symphony Association to find a place to call home. We are thrilled to have a Whittier location in which to provide a center for volunteer activities and regular meetings," said Vice President Bonnie Price.

"The office will help the Symphony Association to continue its impressive commitment to provide excellent classical music with no admission fee to the entire community," added Price.

In addition to presenting four free concerts each season, the Association presents three Children's Concerts, holds a Young Artists Competition and sponsors a Music Enrichment Program in the schools which reaches 15,000 students in grades 3-5 in the Greater Whittier Area.

According to General Manager Sue Walker, although the office is the physical location of Symphony materials, the Web site serves as an always-available source of information about the orchestra.

Conductor Search

The Rio Hondo Symphony Association is now in the process of selecting a permanent conductor to replace the current conductor, Wayne Reinecke, who is retiring at the end of the current season. The new conductor will be responsible for the 2008-09 concert season (July 2008 through June 2009) and subsequent seasons.
